The state allowance for children and the child raising indemnity

In conformity with Ministry of Labour’s latest statements from may 2009, the allowance for children and the child raising indemnity are to be granted regardless the mother’s income. These are granted in accordance with Government Emergency Ordinance nr. 148/2005 completed with its subsequent changes.

The Ministry of Labour’s press release states that the persons who before the child birth achieved professional incomes, subjected to taxation in conformity with the fiscal code stipulations, for a period of 12 months are to be granted the child raising indemnity. The quantum of this child support (with an initial value of 600 lei in 2007) is, starting January 1st 2009, 85% from the medium net incomes achieved by the beneficiary person within the 12 month period before child birth, without being less than 600 lei or higher than 4 000 lei.

At the same time, the mothers will receive a child raising indemnity for each child resulting from a multiple pregnancy. Thus for each child there will be granted 600 lei, starting with the second new born. Mothers that already receive child raising indemnities will also benefit from this new regulation.

As for the allowance, the above mentioned Ordinance stipulates that starting 2007 all children of less than 2 years old, respectively 3 years old for children with disabilities, benefit from a state allowance of 200 lei.
